Marty Applebaum

M.A. Construction Group is a family owned and operated business specializing in asphalt and concrete pavement, tenant improvements, general construction, and building repairs. With over 40 years of experience, we were then founded in 2016 by Marty Applebaum.

His first job as a teen was as a “helper” with crews in his father’s handy-man and plumbing business. Years later as an adult, Marty earned licenses in sealcoating, asphalt & concrete paving, and drainage from each of the South Florida counties. He then obtained his General Contractor’s license from the State of Florida in 2012.

M.A. Construction Group has helped many property owners, property managers and residential communities improve the integrity of their parking lots. In addition, we have assisted many commercial property management companies make improvements to their interior tenant space here in South Florida.

We also host complimentary continuing education classes. These classes are open to the public but may be most helpful to community association managers for continuing education credit. Marty is certified to teach five classes for professional development through the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation. We are pleased to offer:

Marleen Applebaum

Vice President of Business Operations

Marleen is a graduate of American University in Washington, D.C. where she studied Advertising and Marketing. Her career path eventually took her to the construction industry where she successfully managed Accounts Receivables portfolios upwards of $56 million. Now at M.A. Construction, she brings her strong marketing and finance skills to the group with her “get it done” approach. She is a believer in long term customer relationships and strives to make your experience with M.A. Construction a positive one from start to finish.

Ian Applebaum

Sales Manager

As the Sales Manager for our Asphalt and Concrete Division of M.A. Construction Group, Ian is the lifeblood of this division. He is responsible for leading our sales team to exceed our customers’ expectations. He manages many of our national accounts working within their budgets to make capital parking lot improvements on their properties while also servicing our local commercial and condominium customers. With a business and hospitality degree from Florida State University, Ian was formally trained in the sales departments of both the Ritz-Carlton and The Four Seasons, and thus sets the bar high for our sales team and customer satisfaction. He has been a valued member of the team since joining the organization in early 2018.

Brandi Akerman

Marketing Director

Brandi joins the M.A. team after working for Fortune 500 retailers. She has a background in B2B marketing, customer experience, and market research. She has previously managed an enterprise NPS program, and also marketing programs for government, healthcare, and other large contract accounts. Brandi is a University of Florida graduate (go Gators!) and joined the M.A. team in late 2021.

Sharon Fentum

Finance Administration

Sharon is originally from England, but moved to the US almost 30 years ago. She spent over 30 years as an IT Analyst and IT Project Manager for British Airways where she was responsible for the implementation of IT Infrastructure and Systems at airports throughout the Americas and the Caribbean. Now at M.A. Construction, Sharon’s responsibilities include managing all project budgets, vendor interactions and payments.

Mike Garrison

Project Consultant

With over 30 years in the asphalt and concrete industries, our project consultant, Mike Garrison, brings tremendous knowledge and talent to our M.A. Construction Group. His extensive field and customer service experience, in conjunction with his management skills, are the perfect combination that allow him to offer service that is unmatched in the industry. His in depth understanding of the physical components of both asphalt and concrete helps provide creative and functional solutions to those projects that can be challenging. His clients have long since recognized him for his communication skills and ability to solve unforeseeable on-site problems and deliver a quality project.

Carlos Argueta

Quality Control Specialist

Carlos joined the M.A. team in the summer of 2022 bringing with him the ability to multi-task and juggle many jobs at once.
Previously with the Department of Transportation for over 20 years, Carlos specialized in project administration for various road improvement projects throughout Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. He was chosen to be part of the Emergency Operations team handling communications and emergency operations between various municipalities and the DOT during any road closures, including hurricane events, and presidential visits and debates.
Carlos is certified in FEMA incident management, and has quickly become an integral part of our project management team.

Albert Mulet

Project Manager

Albert joined the M.A. Construction team bringing with him a plethora of experience in project management, property management and retail operations management. His long term experiences with Cocowalk, Westland Mall, Seminole Paradise and Gulfstream Park Racetrack gave him the opportunity to oversee projects ranging up to $4 million which included creating a new 23,000 square foot shell for H&M retail and managing the expansion of tenant retail space from 6,000 square feet to 12,000 square feet for Victoria’s Secret. As our Project Manager, Albert is responsible for managing all of our tenant improvement projects.

Bill Hinton

Onsite Project Manager

Bill has over 30 years of onsite experience building commercial restaurants and retail spaces. You’ll find him on the job executing a set of project plans and ensuring a high-quality finished project.

David Groothuis

Project Consultant

With a diverse career spanning operations management, sales, and estimating across multiple trades – including commercial and residential painting, roofing, windows, and kitchens – David brings a wealth of expertise to M.A. Construction Group. Originally from Melville, New York, he studied at the University of Maryland (Go Terps!) before embarking on a dynamic career that also included time in the restaurant industry as a bartender and manager. David’s ability to connect with people, manage complex projects, and find creative solutions makes him a valuable asset to our team.

Sydnei Barrinight

Office Administrator

As a skilled Office Administrator, Sydnei specializes in managing office operations, providing administrative support, and handling financial and operational tasks with precision. She excels in vendor and client management, coordination, and communication, ensuring seamless workflows and efficient business processes. Her ability to balance multiple responsibilities while optimizing workflows has been key to supporting our business goals.

Alondra Soler

Project Coordinator

Alondra began her career in Surgical Technology but soon discovered her passion for construction. She transitioned into the field, gaining experience as a Superintendent, Purchasing Manager, and Project Coordinator. With a strong problem-solving mindset and a focus on team collaboration, she is committed to delivering projects efficiently and maintaining high standards of quality.
